IDA RECOVERY UPDATES

St Charles UMC continues to work on Ida Recovery in many ways. We are happy to share the steps we are taking here.

  • St. Charles UMC continues to work on Ida Recovery in many ways. In addition to our new sermon series aimed at reconnecting to one another, physical changes and work are happening as well.

Pastor Michelle & the Harris Family have moved temporarily to Montz in order for parsonage repairs to begin. These repairs are being paid for out of church reserves while we continue to work with Long & Long Disaster Attorneys on our case. Currently the case is in the "appraisal process," which will lead to a settlement. This process began mid-March and can last 2-4 months. Once the settlement happens, we will be able to begin working to make the rest of the needed indoor and outdoor repairs on the Sanctuary building and begin work on the Fellowship Hall.

  • Many people have asked why the Sunday School building must remain as is on our property. We have been instructed by all parties including insurance, attorneys, and FEMA personnel to leave the Sunday School building "as is" during this portion of the process.

Why are we working with FEMA, you ask? We learned at a community workshop that even though we do have insurance, FEMA will potentially pay things we need that insurance will not. These things include but are not limited to having the building removed, deductibles on the whole claim, loss of use (for which we do not have coverage), and additional loss of income that goes beyond what insurance covers.

Frank House, Rick DuPont, and Dave Lambert are happy to answer any questions that you have regarding our recovery process. If we don't have the answer, we'll find it for you. We knew from the time Ida hit, patience would be our most needed virtue. Thank you for continuing to be patient as we wait for God to provide our way forward.
